SUMMARY:NETWORK Workshop: The Challenges of Reconciliation in the Indigenous-Church Context
DESCRIPTION:A virtual series for leaders and volunteers in Youth\, Young Adult\, and Family & Children Ministries \nPope Francis\, as a first step of his journey on his penitential pilgrimage to Canada in the summer of 2022\, wanted to make space for memory. The Holy Father sought to recall the history and legacy of the Residential School System and the role of the Church in this piece of the colonial project. In making space for memory\, we will address some of the challenges to reconciliation in the Indigenous-Church context. We will also look to the words of Pope Francis and that of his predecessors to draw out the central tenants of our faith that call us to reconcile a relationship that has been deeply wounded. \nPresenter: Maria Lucas\, JD\, Hons.BA\, Indigenous Bar Association\n \nMaria Lucas has always had a strong interest in Indigenous-Crown relations and understands the important role that law plays in reconciling this relationship.  A lawyer with Goldblatt Partners\, supporting their Aboriginal law practice group\, Maria draws on her varied skill set\, that includes a substantive understanding of the complexities of Aboriginal law\, to assist clients in advancing and protecting their Indigenous and treaty rights. Maria undertakes this work all with a view to building greater space for the exercise of Indigenous self-determination.  Maria is a member of the Indigenous Bar Association. When not conducting research and thinking about the complex questions that Aboriginal law raises\, Maria enjoys spending time outdoors\, being with friends and family and trying new cooking recipes! \n \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nThis Workshop series is part of NETWORK\, a program of leadership formation for youth\, young adult and family and children ministry offered by the Redemptorists of North America and Ignite Ministry. www.ignite-canada.ca

DESCRIPTION:Jesus performed many healings throughout His ministry. In the Gospel of Mark\, we hear of the time Jesus healed a man with leprosy\, then told the man to tell no one what He had done. Then\, the healed man goes out and tells everyone he meets. This results in a sticky situation for Jesus\, who can no longer preach freely because of His growing fame. Even in a sticky situation\, fit for the plot of a ‘90s sitcom\, God is at work. Join with FRIENDS\, old and new\, in the heart of the city\, as we read\, reflect on and discuss this story from Mark’s Gospel – The One Where Jesus Heals the Leper. \nPresenter: Fr. You will gain practical strategies\, tools\, and insights to navigate the digital landscape and effectively engage with youth and families through social media platforms. \nIsabel Correa\, MA Th \nSenior Director\, Evangelization and Christian Life\, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal \n Isabel Correa draws on 20 years of leadership experience in ministry with youth and young families. Her life’s mission is dedicated to the formation and evangelization of young people. She has a Masters Degree in Theology\, B.Ed from McGill University and a B.Sc. from Concordia University. Isabel has extensive Youth Ministry and leadership training. Director of the Youth Ministry Office for the Archdiocese of Montreal since 2007\, she provides training in youth ministry\, coordinates youth projects\, and organizes diocesan youth gatherings and various youth pilgrimages every year. DESCRIPTION:A virtual series for leaders and volunteers in Youth\, Young Adult\, and Family & Children Ministries \n \nIn these ever-changing times\, envisioning our ministries for young people – youth\, young adults\, and families and children can be a daunting task if we have struggled to provide leadership for sustained approaches to ministry.  Whether your parish is taking the opportunity to journey with NETWORK Leader Seminars or not you don’t know where to begin\, come and learn best practices\, skills and opportunities to IGNITE your pastoral vision for young people in your parish and community.  This workshop is geared to pastors\, religious\, and pastoral staff. \nFr. Santo Arrigo\, C.Ss.R.\, \nDirector of Ignite Ministry\n \n \nFr. Santo is a Redemptorist Priest currently serving as the Director of Ignite Ministry\, a program for Youth and Young Adults across North America\, based in Toronto.  He is a former member of the Redemptorist Youth Mission Team\, a graduate of the Canadian Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies\, and an adjust faculty member of the Canadian Certificate from 2007 to 2022. As it is only one month since this first sitting of the Synod\, we ask\, ‘What are some of the insights\, points and directions that will guide the Church going forward? How do these insights speak to the reality of young people today\, and for those who serve young people in ministry both inside and outside the Church?’ Join us for an evening with Sr. Elizabeth Davis RSM who participated in the Synod as a delegate and voting member\, and brings from the Synod a wealth of wisdom\, insight and opportunities for us in North America. \n“Pope Francis has called us to enter a three-year journey to explore together our transformation into a synodal church in mission. With a focus on communion\, mission and participation\, this journey has engaged thousands of us in parishes\, communities\, diocese\, national groupings\, and continental assemblies. Most recently\, we have entered the universal stage with the first of two month-long sessions. With the inclusion of lay persons and persons in consecrated life along with cardinals and bishops\, this first session has given us a sense of a new experience of church that we must intensify in the next eleven months leading to the final session in October 2024. (St. Pope JPII Ecclesia in America 1999) Mary encountered Jesus and was transformed. This makes Her the perfect example of a Missionary Disciple. DESCRIPTION:A virtual series for leaders and volunteers in Youth\, Young Adult\, and Family & Children Ministries \n \nCollaboration is a key element in helping youth ministry thrive\, but it takes intentional effort to do well. Whether you are connecting with new leaders\, or a new ministry\, collaboration can help you incorporate new gifts and skills into ministry and further the mission of the Gospel. We will review a practical understanding of what collaborative ministry is (and isn’t). We’ll explore how we can implement collaboration in our ministries by exploring the unique relationship between youth ministry and campus ministry in the Diocese of Charlottetown as a case study. \n  \nLauren van Vliet\, M.Div.\, \nDiocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator\, Diocese of Charlottetown (PEI) and Campus Minister\, University of Prince Edward Island \nLauren van Vliet has been involved in youth\, young adult\, and campus ministries in some capacity for over fifteen years. She is currently serving as the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator for the Diocese of Charlottetown (PEI) and as a campus minister at the University of Prince Edward Island. Previously she served in parish youth ministry in Regina\, SK. She has a Master of Divinity from Regis College. DESCRIPTION:A virtual series for leaders and volunteers in Youth\, Young Adult\, and Family & Children Ministries \nNote: This workshop has been rescheduled to Thursday Oct. 19\, 2023. \n \nWhat are we talking about when we use the word “polarization”? To live by the terms of polarization is to accept the perspective that there are only two poles to choose from\, and to allow ourselves to be driven to an “either/or” way of looking at ourselves\, society\, the world\, or the Church- the list could go on and on. This seems to have become more of an issue lately. It seems more and more challenging to bring together people together in respectful and honest dialogue and discernment. What examples from the life and ministry of Jesus might shed some light on this current experience? What values might need to be cultivated in order for us to build a world and a Church in which diversity is not a threat\, but a source of encounter and richness?  How can we build bridges\, rather than walls? Join us for a lively exploration of this topic. \nDr. Anne Walsh\, D. Min. \nRedemptorist Adult Faith Formation Team\, St. John’s\, NL \n \nAnne Walsh is a native of St. John’s\, Newfoundland and Labrador\, Canada. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education\, a Master’s in Religious Education\, a Diploma in Fine Arts\, a Canadian Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies and a Doctor of Ministry degree. \nAnne has worked in classroom teaching and teacher training and program support\, Campus Ministry\, Youth Ministry in Canada\, the US and Ireland\, and in Religious Education and Adult Faith Formation at the School Board\, Parish and Diocesan levels. She has served on the Advisory Committee for Adult Faith Formation for the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) since 2001\, and was the principal writer for On Good Soil\, the Canadian Bishops’ document on Adult Faith Formation. Anne is Chair of the Association of Canadian Catholic Association for Adult Faith Formation. \nAnne is a Lay Missionary of the Most Holy Redeemer.
